What it finds

How to set it up

  1. Open the Morning Brief tab before the open: gappers are ranked from 4:00 AM ET.
  2. Or use the scanner’s Up 10% Today preset and sort by % change while it’s still pre-market.
  3. Narrow it in Filters: Gap %, at least, a float limit (for example under 20M) or Relative volume, at least.
  4. Tap a stock for its chart with pre-market high and low, VWAP and the news.

What to look for

Volume confirms the gapA gap on heavy pre-market volume has real interest behind it. Thin pre-market trading can gap a stock on a handful of trades.
Know the catalystEarnings, FDA news or a contract can sustain a move; an offering or no news at all often fades.
Mark the pre-market highMany traders watch for a break of the pre-market high after the open, and a loss of VWAP as the sign a gap is failing.

The scanner, presets, filters, charts and the Morning Brief are free. Nexus Pro adds push alerts, saved scans, “why it’s moving” news on every stock, the Supernova scorecard and the dilution risk score, with a 7-day free trial. See pricing.

Questions

When does the pre-market scanner start?

At 4:00 AM ET, when pre-market trading begins. The overnight data resets around 3:30–4:00 AM ET, so the first gappers appear as soon as stocks start trading.

Is the pre-market scanner free?

Yes. The Morning Brief and the scanner are free. Nexus Pro adds a 9:00 AM ET pre-market push alert with the top gappers and your watchlist’s news.

What is a good pre-market gap for day trading?

There’s no single number. Many momentum traders look at stocks up 10% or more with heavy pre-market volume and a clear catalyst, but every gap can fade.
