The scanner

What is a momentum stock scanner?

A tool that scans the whole market for stocks making unusually large moves on heavy volume, so you can find them quickly instead of searching ticker by ticker.

What does Nexus Screener scan for?

Pre-market gappers, stocks up 10% or more, low-float runners, unusual time-adjusted relative volume, news catalysts, trading halts, short-sale restrictions (SSR) and SEC filings such as offerings. Every US-listed stock and ETF (OTC excluded) is reviewed each night, about 1,500 of the most active and most likely to move are scanned through the day, and any new top gainer joins as soon as it starts moving.

What is a pre-market gap?

When a stock trades well above or below its previous close before the market opens, often because of news or earnings. Gaps don't guarantee the move continues and can reverse quickly.

What does "low float" mean?

Float is the number of shares available for public trading. Low-float stocks can move sharply in either direction and are often very volatile.

Data, news and alerts

Is the data real-time?

For up to 500 stocks at a time. The day’s top movers (about 450, ranked by % move and relative volume and re-ranked every 3 minutes) and any stock you open stream in real time and are marked LIVE. The rest of the roughly 1,500 stocks in the scanner refresh every few minutes and are marked DELAYED. Times in the app are Eastern Time.

What is the Morning Brief?

A free pre-market summary, ready from 4:00 AM ET: every stock gapping up before the open, ranked by gap, with pre-market volume, high, low and float, plus the day’s earnings reports and top market headlines.

What is “Why it’s moving”?

A Nexus Pro feature that shows today’s company news on each stock, so you can see the likely catalyst behind a move. Press releases are flagged and kept apart from articles that only mention the ticker.

What push alerts can I get?

Nexus Pro sends push alerts for new Supernova hits, saved-scan matches, trading halts, watchlist price action and SEC filings, earnings, and the 9:00 AM pre-market brief. The free plan includes 1 price alert.
